Rootle is a set of daily word games. This page explains what data the site handles and the cookies it uses. The short version: the games themselves don't collect personal information about you — but the ads that help keep the site free do use cookies, and you can decline them.
What we store on your device
To run the games, Rootle saves a small amount of data in your browser's local storage — your puzzle progress, streaks, and stats. This stays on your device, is never sent to us, and isn't tied to any account. Clearing your browser data removes it. We don't ask you to sign up, and we don't collect names, email addresses, or similar details through the games.
Advertising cookies
Rootle shows ads through Google AdSense. To serve and measure ads, Google and its partners may set and read cookies on your device. Where you have consented, these cookies can be used to show ads personalized to your interests; if you decline, Google may still show non-personalized ads based only on the page content and your general location.

Your choice
When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline advertising cookies. Your choice is remembered on this device. To change it later, clear Rootle's site data in your browser and reload — the banner will appear again. We default to declining advertising cookies until you choose.
Children
Rootle is intended for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Open data & attribution
Rootle's word data is built from openly licensed sources, with thanks: MorphyNet (morphology, CC BY-SA 3.0) and English Wiktionary (CC BY-SA 4.0), from which the generated word files are offered under CC BY-SA 4.0; dwyl/english-words (public domain); Princeton WordNet (WordNet license) for meaning hints; and the LDNOOBW word-filter list (CC BY 4.0). Full credits are in the project's CREDITS file.

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
